CIPD ACE 16 – Creating the workforce of the future: Apprenticshio strategies

The world is changing , there is a high demand in what organisations are asking for, A strong Apprenticship strategy can add value to a business and add talent needs. Although there are very different expectations through the generations in the workplace; the first time in history we have 4 generations working side by side, this comes with its advantages and challenges.

  1. millennials – looking for the work life balance and financial rewards.
  2. Gen X – love the flexible working .
  3. Baby boomers – working for the retirement, looking for part time roles.
  4. traditionalists – easy to please, don’t like change.

With these different generations the one size fits all HR approach doesn’t work anymore, HR is changing.  processes are increasingly becoming digitalised, social networking is the biggest recruitment tool and to provide holistic views we use data analytics.

Many businesses are put off taking on apprentices by believing the myths,

  • Apprenticeships are only for young people
  • Apprenticeships are only foundation qualifications
  • Apprenticeships are on,y for people staring there career.

These myths can be put to bed by the realities,

  • Anyone can do an apprenticeship
  • Apprenticeships can also be degrees
  • Apprenticeships can be taken anytime in your career.

Apprenticeships can be the building blocks for the future of the workforce, building your own in house talent, shaping and changing the life of people. As anyone can start an apprenticeship it’s giving people who believe they are stuck in a dead end job or leaving school with not many GCSE’s hope.

Apprenticeships are the key for the future, learning opertunies for all.

Tips for CIPD ACE 2016

After attending my first ACE last year, I have my essentials ready to go. If you are making your way to Manchester this Wednesday or Thursday here are my tips, advice and what to expect for the event.

  • Flat shoes –  trust me your feet will thank me!
  • A big bag – all that free office stationary needs to get back to the office somehow!
  • Stop the diet – honestly them cupcakes are not going to eat themselves people! However, Processo only has 80 calories in a glass …
  • Business cards – Everyone loves a competition which most exhibitions have; to enter you need to hand over your business card in a glass vase looking thing – this may be a plot to get your contact details….but you also may win an iPad…
  • Power banks – We all know Tweeting uses your device battery. Bring a power bank to top up!
  • Be organized! – Print, write or add to your phone the sessions you would like to attend, the times they are happening and the place they are at. There is nothing worst than running down the exhibits to reach a session on time.
  • A Notebook – ACE is full of usful information make sure you have a notebook and pen handy to write down all that detail.
  • Wear a jacket – when attending conferences you never know what the temperature will   be – best to play it save.
  • Networking – ask people  for their name. You may make some unanticipated positive connections.
  • Selfies – Be prepared for the unexpected selfies! or snapchat face swaps…

Most of all enjoy yourself, get involved and follow the #cipdACE16
